NAN & EEP Convention Brings Together Education Leaders

The Secretary of Education, Reverend Al Sharpton, Newt Gingrich, and the Chancellor of the New York City Public Schools walk into a room . . .

No, this isn't the beginning of a bad political joke, rather it's just a small part of the incredible lineup for the education component of the National Action Network Annual Convention, which will be held April 1-4 in New York City. We're co-sponsoring events on April 2nd and 3rd - panels and discussions devoted to all things education. We're bringing together politicians, educators, and civil rights leaders from across the country and aisle to grapple with the central question of our time: How do we close the achievement gap?

Noted speakers and panelists:

  • US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan
  • Mayor Adrian Fenty (Washington, DC)
  • Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa (LA)
  • Mayor Kevin Johnson (Sacramento)
  • Former US Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings
  • Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich
  • KISS FM Radio Host & National Radio Personality James Mtume
  • Education writer and thinker Kevin Chavous
  • Executive Director, Democrats for Education Reform Joe Williams
  • Journalist and education reform author David Whitman
