Education Equality Day: A Call to Action on the 55th Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education

On May 17th, 1954, the US Supreme Court ruled unanimously in the case of Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka that “separate educational facilities [for blacks and whites] are inherently unequal.”

55 years later our government still supports a broken and unequal system of public education. A system that fails to serve poor and minority children and condemns them to a lifetime of limited opportunities.

We cannot wait another year. We cannot stand and watch while our children are denied their rights.

On Saturday, May 16th at 10am in our nation’s capitol, the Education Equality Project will gather thousands of supporters together to demand real equality in public education now.

Our Founders, Signatories, Prominent Leaders, Performers, and Supporters will stand and say: “55 years is too long to wait.” We will tell our leaders that the time to enact real reform in public education is now. The time to give all students the same opportunities is now. The time of waiting is over.
